He made an immediate impact and has been compared to another great Bears linebacker, Hall of Famer Dick Butkus. Urlacher was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2000, has been named to five Pro Bowls and was the 2005 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Prior to his NFL career, Urlacher played collegiately at New Mexico, one of only two Division 1-A schools that recruited him. Urlacher emerged as a dominating force at New Mexico and was named All-American. He finished his career with 422 tackles, 3 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles.
