The son of Allen and Debbie Krenzel, Craig grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan before making his way to Columbus, Ohio. After a standout career as a student athlete in high school he received a full ride football scholarship to The Ohio State University in 1999. Craig earned his first start in 2001 against arch rival Michigan. In that game he helped lead OSU to a 26-20 upset victory which was the Buckeyes’ first win in Ann Arbor in 14 years.
A 3-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Craig graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a 3.68 GPA in Molecular Biology and received the Vincent DePaul Draddy Award, also known as the academic Heisman Trophy. Other academic accolades during his time on campus include the Verizon Academic All American of the Year, the NCAA Top VIII Award, and the Socrates Award.
On the field, Craig’s leadership helped guide Ohio State to their first National Championship in 34 years leading the Buckeyes to a perfect 14-0 season including a victory over top-ranked and defending national champion Miami in the 2003 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, of which he was named Offensive MVP. Krenzel compiled 2,478 yards of total offense in 2002, 5th best all-time at OSU and was named the Archie Griffin Offensive Player of the Year and voted OSU’s Co-MVP for the 2002 season. He currently ranks ninth all-time with over 4,300 career passing yards. After being voted All-Big Ten as a junior, Craig was named 2003 Team Captain by his teammates. He finished his career with a victory in the 2004 Fiesta Bowl where he was named MVP for the second year in a row. As a starting quarterback, Craig finished his career with a 24-3 record and was drafted in the 5th round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He started 5 games in the Windy City before spending one year with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Currently, Craig is a principal at Arthur Krenzel Lett Insurance Group, an independent insurance agency with offices in Ohio and West Virginia. He also works as a radio commentator for 97.1 the fan on Fridays as well as co-hosting a Buckeye roundtable show during the fall. Craig is also very active in motivational speaking where he continues to share his insight on team building, success and values to different groups and corporations across the country.
Active in the community, Craig is involved in multiple cancer fundraising efforts for the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. He also sits on the board for The 2nd & 7 Foundation, a non-profit organization that “Tackles Illiteracy” in Central Ohio and is active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes in central Ohio.
