Jamal Anderson was drafted in the seventh round by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1994 NFL draft. Anderson struggled his first couple of seasons in the NFL, playing in only four games his rookie season and accumulating only 203 total yards and one touchdown in 16 games his second season. Anderson became a dominant running back in 1996 with over 1,500 yards total offense: 1,055 rushing yards and 473 receiving yards. After another 1,000 yard rushing year in 1997, Anderson put together a fantastic season in 1998 with 1,846 yards rushing on 410 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns. His 410 carries stood as a single-game NFL record until it was broken in 2006. Anderson’s success in 1998 was one of the main reasons the Falcons went 14-2 and reached the Super Bowl before losing to the Denver Broncos. Anderson rushed for 1,000 yards in 2000 before his career ended prematurely with a torn ACL in 2001. A one-time Pro Bowler, his career totals include 1,329 carries, 5,336 rushing yards, 34 rushing touchdowns, 156 pass receptions, 1,645 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. Anderson was born on September 30, 1972, in East Orange, New Jersey. He played college football at the University of Utah.
