Jim Rice played in the Major Leagues for 16 seasons, all of them for the Boston Red Sox. The eight-time All-Star finished his career with a .298 batting average, 382 home runs and 1,451 RBI. Rice was voted the A.L. MVP in 1978 and helped lead the Red Sox to two World Series (1975 and 1986). He ranks third behind only Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski on the Red Sox all-time leaders list in home runs, RBI, hits and total bases.
Since retiring after the 1989 season, Rice has remained active in the Red Sox organization, serving as a minor league hitting instructor from 1992 to 1995 before joining the parent club in a similar position in 1996. He currently serves as a special organizational instructor for the team.
Rice is currently a Red Sox studio analyst before select Red Sox games on The Boston Globe Pre-Game Show, NESN's one-hour pre-game show. After the game, Rice delivers his expert analysis and game commentary on Extra Innings and Extra Innings Extra, NESN's popular post-game shows.
