With a degree in recreational therapy, Joanıs professional career began at a correctional facility and mental health hospital. She then served in several capacities at a state school for blind children, including Certified Braillist and public speaker to educate audiences about visual impairment.
Joanıs courageous story hits home when she explains that she lost her sight in less than three weeks because of a rare disease, ironically while working at the school for blind children. Five years later she lost her spouse to cancer, becoming a widowed, disabled parent in her thirties.
A mother, speaker and author with a new husband, Joan shares thoughts and feelings as she tackles the world in a "differently abled" manner. Joan has accelerated her career in public speaking nationally, including the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table in 1993, as well as international engagements.
