Marshall Faulk is considered one of the top running backs in NFL history. Faulk was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the second overall pick of the 1994 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact with the Colts his rookie year by rushing for 1,282 yards, 11 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. In 1998, his last year with the Colts, he began the first of what would be an NFL-record four consecutive seasons with 2,000-plus total offensive yards.
Faulk was traded to the St. Louis Rams after the 1998 season and picked up right where he had left off with the Colts with 1,381 yards rushing and 1,048 yards receiving. He was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and played a key role in helping the Rams win the Super Bowl. Faulk was named NFL MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2000 with over 2,000 yards of total offense and 26 total touchdowns, an NFL record at the time.
He continued to produce over the next four seasons, but his career came to an end due to reconstructive knee surgery. Faulk, a seven-time Pro Bowler, retired with 12,279 career rushing yards (ninth all-time), 100 career rushing touchdowns (seventh all-time), 6,875 receiving yards, 36 receiving touchdowns, and 19,154 total yards from scrimmage (fourth all-time).
Prior to his NFL career, Faulk enjoyed a stellar career at San Diego State University (SDSU). He left SDSU holding many of the school’s all-time offensive records and ranked second on the NCAA’s all-time list for career touchdowns with 62.
Faulk had his #28 jersey retired by the Rams on December 20, 2007. He is currently a broadcaster with the NFL Network.
