12-Time Pro Bowler Champ Bailey Retires

Twelve time Pro Bowler  Champ Bailey has decided to retire from the NFL, putting an end to a long and illustrious career. The 36-year-old cornerback spent most of his 15-season career with the Denver Broncos, but after being released by the Broncos at the end of last season and being cut by the New Orleans Saints this season due to a foot injury, Bailey decided to move on to pursue other career opportunities. “I’ve had time to think about it, have thought about it the last couple months, ever since things didn’t work out with the Saints,” Bailey said by phone. There are other opportunities out there for me. I never wanted to move on and regret it so I wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the decision and I’m comfortable with the decision.It was good for me to sit out these last few weeks, I know how it’s going to be for me to sit on the couch and watch football. I’ve been out on the field the last 15 years and I now I’m content with being a spectator.”

“Congrats to Champ Bailey on his HOF career! Our team & community were very fortunate to have a player & person like Champ. Thanks, No. 24!!,” John Elway, general manager of the Broncos, tweeted on his official Twitter account.

The Broncos are expected to announce plans for a celebration in honor of Bailey, which may include a one-day contract so he can officially retire in Denver, his agent said.
