Rumors have been spreading this afternoon that American League MVP Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins have reached a preliminary agreement on a 10-year contract extension.

Joe Mauer himself has denied the rumor today stating that he has not reached an agreement with the Minnesota Twins for a 10-year contract extension…

“I don’t know where that came from,” Mauer said in an interview Tuesday afternoon with KARE 11′s Randy Shaver.  “I was pretty shocked to hear that.”

“Both sides have had good meetings and we’ll leave it at that”

ESPN’s Buster Olney also tweeted the following:

“Twins remain optimistic that a deal will eventually get done, but a deal is not done yet.” He later added that “multiple sources now saying that the report on a preliminary agreement for Mauer is not accurate.”
