There’s always the chance the Packers will rest Rodgers once they have clinched home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs, which could come with a win this weekend at Kansas City. Then again, they do have that undefeated thing going, so maybe he won’t be seeing the sideline all that much.

Brady’s Patriots and Brees’ Saints are in a different situation. Both their teams could need to win the rest of the way to reach as advantageous a postseason position as possible. Neither has clinched its division, although New Orleans owns at least a wild-card spot in the NFC, and one more victory gives New England the AFC East.

Manning, barring injury, won’t be sitting out anything with the Giants needing to sweep their final three games to assure making the playoffs.

That’s what takes him to a whole different variation, as far as a fanbase and Twitter. It’s just totally different. Michael Buffer has been elected to the Hall of Fame. What are your feelings on that?:

“Hey, listen, there’s a bunch of guys that are in the Hall … that from the beginning of fighting, in the 20s and 1910, all these guys, these guys are in the Hall of Fame, too. If these guys never went to the Hall of Fame, then Michael Buffer shouldn’t. But these guys are in the Hall of Fame and his voice is more sensational. We had never heard that voice before. These are guys are people that we just heard because they were in the ring. … He entertained us. … He’s a part of the two men in the ring. The referee should be in there, the announcer should be in there.”

On the passing of Smokin’ Joe Frazier:

“One of the first all-time really greats, even since the beginning of boxing, that we could actually visualize and watch these guys and make sense out of what they’re doing.

Woods said, “…My training sessions are great. Strength has come back. My explosiveness has come back through my training, and now just trying to get my feels back, and it feels great.”

Yes, it was just a practice round of sorts and didn’t count for anything on the PGA Tour, but it’s still an impressive number by the former world number one.

What does this tell us about Tiger’s game? Well, not a lot really, because it wasn’t really a competition of sorts, but at least he’s producing scores on tough golf courses. Ripkin told 105.7 FM in Baltimore that he likely is a year or two away from such a position. Cal Ripken says he’s at least a year away from returning to baseball full-time.

“When I say something like, ‘I have a little itch to come back,’ I’m certainly all ears and open to talk and listen at all times,” Ripken said. “But realistically, I’m firmly planted in what I’m doing right now, at least for the next year or two years. Then I’ll have to reevaluate and say, ‘OK, do I really want to come back to the big league scene and is there going to be an opportunity?’ And that’s the truth of it.”

“When I retired, I wanted to make sure I was available to get my kids off to college and I’ve kept a very good relationship with (Orioles owner) Peter Angelos. He’s been very helpful to the foundation. We talk quite often. … I imagine because the Orioles are struggling, it becomes a little bit more of a topic.”

Ripken retired from baseball following the 2001 season after 21 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. His name appears in the record books repeatedly, most notably as one of only eight players in history to achieve 400 home runs and 3,000 hits. On July 29, 2007 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame after receiving the third highest voting percentage in history and collecting the most votes ever.
