Round 1 of the 2011 NFL Draft picks are in. Auburn quarterback Cam Newton was selected as the first pick overall by the Carolina Panthers in the NFL football draft at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, April 28, 2011, in New York.
Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller went No. 2 overall to the Denver Broncos.
SOUTHBEND, IN. – Football Hall of Famer, Archie Griffin, will appear as the guest speaker along with Donovan McNabb at the 2011 College Football Hall of Fame KeyBank Gridiron Legends Luncheon Series. McNabb will speak on Wednesday, May 11 and Archie Griffin speaker will be featured and appear on Tuesday, June 28.
Griffin, who remains the only player in college football history to be awarded the Heisman Trophy twice, is also a popular motivational speaker on the circuit today. Retired Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden spoke to fans and media in Bonita Springs, FL on Thursday night, April 14. Bowden addressed the Southwest Florida chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and said he might be busier in his post-football life than he was as a coach.
“I’d hate to be doing nothing, I really would,” Bowden said. “The worst thing that could happen to me would be having nothing to do, it would drive me nuts. I try to speak three, four or five times a week and I really enjoy it because I usually speak to a good cause.” ... Read More
A NJ state Democratic Party official says that Olympic gold medalist, Carl Lewis, is planning to run for the New Jersey Senate and will announce his candidacy for the 8th Legislative District Monday.

St. John’s basketball coach, Steve Lavin, said in a statement today that he has prostate cancer. Lavin is 46 years old.
The former UCLA Bruins coach announced Friday that he was diagnosed in September with prostate cancer but was told he could delay treatment until after the season. He plans to undergo treatment soon and says it will not affect his coaching. ... Read More
