“I know it’s time, and that’s OK.,” Favre said after the Vikings 20-13 defeat to the Lions. “Again, I hold no regrets, and I can’t think of too many players offhand that can walk away and say that. Individually and from a team standpoint, it was way more than I ever dreamed of.”

“One game, one season does not define me,” Favre said. “There will be people saying it’s a shame you went out that way, this and that. I am truly grateful for the opportunity that, by the grace of God, I got a chance to play this game and play it at a high level and I’m honored. I hope that people admired the way I played, my passion for it, because I hold no regrets.”

According to NFL sources, the Minnesota Vikings plan to increase Favre’s base salary for this season to $16.5 million instead of the originally planned $13 million he was due under the two-year contract he signed last August.

According to the  Star Tribune sources confirm that he is expected to have $3.5 million worth of incentives written into his contract, incentives based on the Vikings’ potential postseason success as a team, that would bring the deal to $20 million. That would mean $1 million for each season the future Hall of Fame quarterback has played in the league.

Favre said earlier this month after the Star Tribune originally reported the team would be willing to increase his salary that “it’s not about the money.”

Favre is coming off one of the best seasons of his career at the age of 40 and the Vikings felt his importance was so great that they sent veterans Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell to Hattiesburg, Miss., on Monday night on a private jet to convince Favre to return with them. The trio returned with Favre and Favre’s wife, Deanna, about 15 hours later.

“I played a long time, I went to four Pro Bowls and I never had a coach fly down to Mississippi to talk to me in the offseason and see how I was doing,” said former quarterback Rich Gannon, the NFL MVP in 2002 and now an analyst for CBS. “I think in this situation it’s warranted. The reality of it is they are a much different football team with him.

“I think the other guy [Tarvaris Jackson] hasn’t played enough and you look at his body of work it’s just not yet a Pro Bowl quarterback. It’s like I used to tell people about life insurance. Nobody likes to pay the premiums, everybody complains and moans about them and all of a sudden somebody dies and it’s like, ‘Boy, I’m glad we have that life insurance.’

“I think it’s a little bit of a similar situation with Brett. At the end of the day it’s damn nice to have the guy in the building.”

Senior NFL Writer Jay Glazer reports that Favre has told The Minnesota Vikings team that he will not return to football. This will make it three times now that Favre has retired. Because Favre has changed his mind so many times, it is hard to say that his retirement is official.

Brett Favre expected to retire from the NFL making this his third time to retire.

According to a series of tweets from Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, “Brett Favre began telling Vikings officials last night he will NOT return for a 20th season.” Another said that “Favre is expected to issue a press release later today.” The quarterback’s ankle injury may be one reason that Favre is reluctant to play this year.

Favre, according to the paper, has chosen to retire rather than return for his 20th NFL season because his left ankle, on which he had surgery this spring, has not responded the way he’d hoped. He did not report to camp, which opened Friday.

After off-season surgery on his ankle, Favre began working out in Hattiesburg, MS. Most people, especially the Vikings, took this as a sign that he would return. The Vikings are still holding out hope that Favre will again change his mind as he has done so many times in the past.

Still, Zulgad cautions that Favre still could return: “There is a chance ownership will go back to Favre with an offer of more than the 13 million for this season,” he wrote. And as ProFootballTalk notes, “before Favre returns, he needs to persuade everyone that he won’t return. Just like he did last year.”

ESPN’s Jeff MacGregor tweets: “Pacing back & forth as he decides retirement, Favre accidentally completes Redskins conditioning test.”

Adam Schefter of ESPN tweets: “Had Favre retired after season, Minnesota’s quarterback this season could have been Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell or Marc Bulger.” And “one other option the Vikings would have had at quarterback, the most intriguing one of all.” … Ben Roethlisberger

Coach Mike Shanahan, whose team plays the Vikings on Nov. 28 at FedEx Field is skeptical. After the Redskins’ training camp practice Tuesday, he said “I’ll have to see it before I believe it.”

If Brett Favre does officially retire this time, he will go down in NFL history as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

However, the hostile crowd didn’t seem to phase Favre as Minnesota went on to beat Green Bay 38-26. Favre completed 17 of 28 pass attempts for 244 yards, including touchdowns to Visanthe Shiancoe, Percy Harvin, Jeff Dugan and Bernard Berrian.

Recalling his days with the Packers, Favre went on to say. “What I’ve done here speaks for itself. What I was part of was awesome. That will never change.”

Brett Favre has apologized for the illegal block he committed against Safety Eugene Wilson during last Sunday’s preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Favre, Minnesota Viking’s newly acquired QB, blamed the penalty on being rusty.

Favre drew an illegal crackback block on Houston Safety Eugene Wilson, who is now unable to play. Wilson is now listed as day-to-day.

Favre complained earlier today of pain when he takes deep breaths and said he thinks he might have a cracked rib.

Favre said, “My intentions were not to hurt anyone including myself… I hope he’s ok… I’m sorry if he was injured, but that was not my intention.”

Brett Favre signs with Minnesota Vikings according to ESPN

Looks like Brett Favre is heading back to the Minnesota Vikings according to FoxSports. Although Favre turned the Vikings down several weeks ago, that didn’t stop Favre and Childress from continuing to talk.

One player had previously told FOXSports.com: “I’m telling you it’s already done … I don’t think anyone here doesn’t think that.” It now seems that the player could be right on the money.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress began informing the team of Favre’s imminent arrival on Tuesday morning, saying, “It’s a done deal,” one source told FOXSports.com’s Alex Marvez.

Asked if the plan was to sign Favre on Tuesday, Childress replied: “In a perfect world.”

Despite Favre’s decision to retire in July — Vikings players told FOXSports.com that Favre is in fact on his way to Minnesota and they believe a deal could be done as early as Tuesday night.

A source close to Brett Favre said the quarterback, pending a physical, will sign a contract with the Minnesota Vikings for between $10 million to $12 million, according to ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Favre’s mother, Bonita, told the Biloxi Sun Herald that her son would be working out with the Vikings on Wednesday. ESPN analyst Cris Carter reported Tuesday that Childress already has told the Vikings that Favre will be starting in Friday night’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I have mixed emotions, but I have always loved to watch him play,” she told the Sun Herald. “This time, however, I thought he would stay retired and stay home. I guess he could not do it.

“They [Minnesota] seem to have a good team in place, and he liked that. I guess I need to get a Vikings jersey now.”

Green Bay Packers Respond to Favre Deal

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after practice Tuesday he was not surprised by Favre’s return.

“I don’t think anybody should be surprised by it,” McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Aaron Rodgers, who inherited the starting quarterback position after Favre retired — then unretired — said, “I don’t have a reaction,” the Journal Sentinel reported. “It doesn’t pertain to me. It has absolutely nothing to do with me. It doesn’t change anything. It has nothing to do with the Green Bay Packers.”
