Scotty Bowman Booking Agency Profile

Few coaches in any sport can rival the success of Scotty Bowman. He is the most successful coach in NHL history with nine Stanley Cup titles and has been referred to as “the greatest coach in professional sports” by Sports Illustrated.

After 30 years in the league, Bowman holds the all-time NHL coaching records for regular season victories (1,244) and playoff wins (223). His coaching career began in St. Louis during the 1967-1968 season - he led the Blues to two division titles and three Stanley Cup appearances in each of his first three seasons. In 1971, Bowman became coach of the Montreal Canadiens.

Bowman led the Canadiens to five Stanley Cup Championships (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979) and six division titles in eight years. His 1976-1977 team still holds the NHL record for fewest losses with eight, the fewest ever in a single season of 70 or more games. During the 1979-1980 season, Bowman moved to the Buffalo Sabres as head coach and general manager, where he led the team to one division title.

After a brief break from coaching and a job as an analyst for CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, Bowman returned to the NHL to coach the Pittsburgh Penguins for two seasons. He coached the Penguins to a Stanley Cup title in 1992.

Bowman became coach of the Detroit Red Wings in 1993 and, in his first year, coached the team to 46 wins. The Red Wings then reached the Stanley Cup finals in 1995, their first appearance in 29 years. In 1997, Bowman led the Red Wings to their first Stanley Cup win in 42 years, a feat they would repeat the following season.

Bowman retired from coaching in 2002. Besides winning a record nine Stanley Cups and recording the most wins in NHL history, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. Bowman also won the Jack Adams Award for Outstanding Coach twice in his career and was awarded in 2001 the Lester Patrick Award for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.
