Shannon Sharpe entered the NFL in 1990 as the Denver Broncos seventh-round selection out of Savannah State. Sharpe, whose career spanned 14 years with the Denver Broncos (12 seasons) and the Baltimore Ravens (2 seasons), is the NFL's all-time leader in receptions (815) and yards (10,060) by a tight end. He is also the NFL's all-time leader in touchdowns (62) and 50-catch seasons (11) by a tight end.

Sharpe was voted to eight Pro Bowls (1992-98, 2001), as well as the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1990s. Sharpe is one of only four tight ends in NFL history to post more than one 1,000-yard receiving season (1994, 1996 & 1997) and one of four to amass 6,000 receiving yards. He produced 19 career 100-yard games and a Broncos franchise-record seven straight 50-catch seasons.

A three-time Super Bowl champion, back-to-back with the Broncos (1997, 1998) and with the Ravens (2000), Sharpe holds the NFL record for most receptions in a post-season contest (13) along with Kellen Winslow and Thurman Thomas. He also holds the NFL post-season record for longest reception, a 96-yard catch for a touchdown at Oakland in the 2000 AFC Championship Game . Sharpe played in 12 post-season games as a Bronco and ranks No. 1 in franchise playoff history in receptions (47) and No. 3 in receiving yards (505).

After retiring in 2004, Sharpe joined CBS Sports as a studio analyst for its NFL pre-game show, THE NFL TODAY.
