Drew Brees Breaks Johnny Unitas TD Record

NEW ORLEANS, La. — In a record that was hard to beat, Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, set a new NFL record passing touchdowns in 48 consecutive games, breaking the long standing touchdown record held by legendary quarterback Johnny Unitas at 47 set 52 years ago.

Drew Brees embraces Devery Henderson who caught the record breaking TD pass in an NFL-record 48th consecutive game previously held by the late Johnny Unitas at 47 as the Saints defeated the Chargers at home 31-24 in a Sunday Night Football game on October 7, 2012 .

In the game where the Saints defeated the Chargers at home 31-24 on Sunday Night Football, the record-setting moment came with a 40-yard pass to Devery Henderson. As soon as the completion was made, an ecstatic Brees rushed to the end zone to celebrate with Henderson along with more New Orleans’ teammates who joined in.

ESPN broadcaster and former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski said:

“To go 48 consecutive games throwing a touchdown pass is amazing. As a quarterback who played 17 years, there were some games I was worried if I was going to get a completion.” …. “For him to throw a touchdown pass in that many games is a remarkable record.”

Brees’s achievement will go down as one of the greatest NFL records ever.

Congratulations Drew Brees!
