NBA NEWS: After failing to reach a new collective bargaining agreement on Thursday, NBA owners have locked out the players today.

Shaq Announces Retirement on Twitter (Video)

After 19 seasons in the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal announced via Twitter that he is retiring.

“We did it. 19 years baby. I want to thank you very much,” O’Neal said in a video posted on his Twitter account. “That’s why I’m telling you first. I’m about to retire. Love you. Talk to you soon.”

O’Neal won three NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat. He also played for the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.

St. John’s Basketball Coach Steve Lavin Has Cancer

St. John’s basketball coach, Steve Lavin, said in a statement today that he has prostate cancer. Lavin is 46 years old.

The former UCLA Bruins coach announced Friday that he was diagnosed in September with prostate cancer but was told he could delay treatment until after the season. He plans to undergo treatment soon and says it will not affect his coaching. ... Read More

Gilbert Arenas 75-Foot Shot at Buzzer (VIDEO)

During the first half of Monday night’s basketball game between the Orlando Magic and New Jersey Nets, Magic guard, Gilbert Arenas, makes a dramatic shot from 75 feet away beating the buzzer. The ball bounced off the front of the rim, hit the shot clock and fell through the basket right at at the buzzer. The refs, however, waved off the shot because the ball hit the shot clock which is considered out of bounds according to NBA rules.

Arenas argued with the refs that the ball didn’t hit the shot clock, but it is obvious that it did as one can easily see in the video. The Magic went on to win 104-88.

Clark Kellogg to be Honored for Contributions to Youth
