Lakers Owner Jerry Buss Dies at 79 After a Long Battle with Cancer

LOS ANGELES, cA. — We are sad to report that Los Angeles Lakers, Jerry Buss, died early this morning at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer.

Over the past few months Buss had been hospitalized with health complications and just yesterday it was revealed that he’d been suffering from cancer the entire time.

Jerry Buss began his career as a real estate mogul in Santa Monica and Los Angeles during the great real estate boom in the seventies and in 1979 he purchased the Lakers, the L.A. Kings and The Forum for $67.5 million.

Current and former Lakers players Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant visited Buss at Cedars-Sinai hospital while he was in intensive care before he succumbed to an undisclosed form of cancer..

Buss lead the Lakers to 10 NBA Championships over three decades and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

He is survived by his six children.
