CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. — St. Louis Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Arrow Leadership and Success Summit, the high point of the Arrow Leadership and Success Series, which is new to the publication this year. Former New York Yankees great Lou Piniella, Bears running back Gale Sayers were also on hand to sign autographs. WILLIAMSPORT, PA. — Roberto Alomar, a switch hitter who played for seven major league teams between 1988 and 2004 and had a career .300 batting average, was on hand to meet and greet fans and to sign autographs for free between 6 and 7 p.m. as the featured guest at the Williamsport Welcomes the World block party. WILLIAMSPORT, PA. — Former MLB Hall of Famer, Dave Winfield, was the grand marshal of the 10th annual Grand Slam Parade that kicked off the Little League World Series activities in the Williamsport area on August 10, 2014. Winfield was also the guest speaker on August 14 at 8 a.m. at the world series kickoff breakfast sponsored by the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce at the Genetti Hotel. Baseball Legend Tony Gywnn lost his battle with cancer today. According to CNN, the Hall of Fame outfielder who spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the San Diego Padres, died after a multiyear battle with salivary gland cancer. He was 54.

ST. LOUIS, MO. — Former MLB Manager, Tony LaRussa, recently gave the keynote speech to nearly 3,000 student graduates at Washington University in St. Louis on May 16 in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus. La Russa told the graduates that young people must be willing to take chances as they begin their working lives. This was La Russa’s third time speaking at Washington University. He delivered an Assembly Series talk in 2005 and the keynote address at the William Greenleaf Eliot Society’s 45th annual dinner in 2012.
