The National Enquirer has photographed Tiger Woods attending a sex rehab clinic in Hattiesburg Mississippi. If the photo is really Tiger, then this would be the first time Woods has been seen publically since the famous Thanksgiving SUV crash at his home in Florida.

Woods is said to have checked in at the clinic on December 30 for a six-week program. ... Read More

Has Tiger Woods Hurt The Athlete Endorsement Market?

I’ve read on more than one occasion since the Tiger Woods story broke last month that the endorsement market for all athletes will suffer as a result of his indiscretions. The thinking goes that if companies can’t trust someone like Tiger, who for years had the cleanest image among all athletes, who can they trust?

I don’t agree with this assessment. There’s an inherent risk whenever a company utilizes an athlete. He could get hurt, traded, arrested or, in the case of Tiger, caught with his pants down. Athletes have been endorsing products for close to 100 years and will continue to do so. ... Read More

Why Goose Gossage Is The Perfect Golf Partner

Since I spend so much time around athletes, people often ask me about my most memorable experiences. And while I’ve had my share of memories, both good and bad, one that always sticks out involved New York Yankees Hall of Famer Goose Gossage. If you haven’t met Goose, he’s a great guy who loves to have a good time. He’s full of laughs and great stories.

I was playing in a pro-am scramble golf event with Goose in Copper Mountain, Colorado in the late 90’s. The other members in our group were big Yankee fans from New Jersey. One of the members of our fivesome had just purchased a new putter and unfortunately waited until the tournament to try it out. To say this guy was bad is a major understatement. He was the worst putter I’ve ever seen. He just couldn’t figure out how to use it. If he had a 10 foot putt, he would hit it 20 feet past the hole. As the day went on, Goose gave the guy some good-natured ribbing, which everyone was enjoying. ... Read More

Tiger Woods Earns $1B Tops Michael Jordan As Highest Paid Athlete

Tiger Woods earns $1B becoming highest paid athlete

Forbes reported last week that Tiger Woods became the first athlete to earn $1 billion in career earnings from endorsements, prize winnings, golf course design and appearance fees. Woods reportedly earns $30 million a year from Nike and receives $10 million per project for his golf design work. He also just won $10 million last week for winning the FedEx Cup title.

The crazy part is that Woods in only 33 years old and has many years of competitive golf, endorsements and golf course design ahead of him. It’s not a stretch to say that he’ll likely make well in excess of $2 billion by the time his career ends. It’s estimated that he has now earned more than NBA great Michael Jordan ($800 million) and retired Formula One driver Michael Shumacher ($700 million). ... Read More

Chris Evert & Greg Norman Separate After 15 Months of Marriage

Golf great Greg Norman and tennis legend Chris Evert announced they have separated Friday just 15 months after they were married.

It is not know if they plan to divorce.

In a statement, the couple said only, “We will remain friends and supportive of one another’s family.” The statement said they requested privacy for them and their families.

The timing of the announcement was in part to prevent speculation on Evert’s absence at the Presidents Cup, matches between the United States and an International team of countries from every continent but Europe and Antarctica.

“I don’t think it will be a distraction,” said Robert Allenby of Australia, part of the International team. “That’s just not the way Norman is. He’s normally very private with his life. I know Norman. Next week his whole focus will be purely on what we have to do as a team and how we have to come together. He’ll be right behind us 110 percent.”

On Tuesday, September 15th, Jason Hargett participated in the Mark Eaton Celebrity Classic in Utah in one of those “hole-in-one for big bucks” contests. Despite a sore wrist Hargett borrowed his brother’s clubs, and proceeded to participate in the event. The rest is history.

Tom Watson Loses British Open to Stewart Cink (Video)

TURNBERRY, Scotland – Tom Watson fought hard in the 138th British Open Championship, holding a one-stroke lead with a hole to play and needing just a par to make history, but it wasn’t meant to be. When Watson hit the 72nd green, he needed two putts to win but unfortunately his ball kept rolling. His playing partner, Australian Matthew Goggin, said later he thought Watson had hit “a perfect shot.” Instead his ball landed in a clump of grass. If it was just a few inches closer, he could’ve comfortably two putted, Goggin guessed. Tom Watson loses to Stewart Cink in a 4-hole playoff. Watch video.

“The playoff was just one bad shot after another,” Watson said, “I didn’t give (Cink) much competition.” “In retrospect, I probably would have hit a 9 iron rather than an 8 iron (into the last hole),” he said during an emotional news conference, “I was thinking 9, but I said, ‘I’ll hit 8’, and I caught it just the way I wanted to, and sure enough, it went too far.” “I chose to putt it from the short rough there. I just felt like I had a better chance to get it close, and I looked at that upslope, looked like there was some grain in there, so I decided I was going to make sure I wasn’t going to leave it short and sure, I gunned it on by and made a lousy putt.”

During his emotional news conference — which ended with a standing ovation to the man they once dubbed the King of Scotland — Watson struggled to maintain his composure. “It would’ve been a hell of a story, wouldn’t it? It wasn’t to be and, yes, it’s a great disappointment. It tears at your gut, as it always has torn at my gut. It’s not easy to take.” “When all is said and done,” he said, “One of the things I hope that will come out of my life is that my peers will say, you know, that Watson, he was a hell of a golfer.” Stewart Cink and Tom Watson British Open Interview.
