Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad To Celebrate Christian Family Values

Focus on the Family, a conservative Christian organization that places emphasis on marriage and parenthood, has purchased an ad spot featuring Tim Tebow that will air on Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 7th and some say the ad’s message is bound to spark controversy.

The Associated Press reported this week that the ad’s theme will be “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life,” with Pam Tebow sharing the story of her difficult 1987 pregnancy — instead of getting an abortion she decided to give birth to Tebow, the now-famous quarterback who went on to become a Heisman Trophy winner, leading the Gators to two BCS wins.

Gary Schneeberger, Focus on the Family spokesman, told ABC News he couldn’t comment on the content of the ad. However, he said his organization has always viewed the Tebows as “strong, committed Christians” who have inspirational family stories to tell. ... Read More

Was Anyone Surprised By Mark McGwire’s Admission of Steroids?

Mark McGwire’s admission that he took steroids was about as shocking as the sun coming up this morning. All McGwire did was confirm was the rest of us already knew, that he cheated and joined a big list of others who brought disgrace on the game of baseball during what’s become known as the Steroid Era.

I don’t blame McGwire completely. Part of the blame undoubtably falls on Major League Baseball, who turned a blind eye to the problem and hoped that it would just go away. Not until the steroid scandal became a headline news story did baseball take the issue seriously. ... Read More

The Super Bowl is the biggest single sporting event in the United States each year. Has Tiger Woods Hurt The Athlete Endorsement Market?

I’ve read on more than one occasion since the Tiger Woods story broke last month that the endorsement market for all athletes will suffer as a result of his indiscretions. The thinking goes that if companies can’t trust someone like Tiger, who for years had the cleanest image among all athletes, who can they trust?

I don’t agree with this assessment. There’s an inherent risk whenever a company utilizes an athlete. He could get hurt, traded, arrested or, in the case of Tiger, caught with his pants down. Athletes have been endorsing products for close to 100 years and will continue to do so. ... Read More
